On Wednesday, the District Magistrate Saravagyaram Mishra and Superintendent of Police, Swapnil Mamgai, met with University and goshala officials to discuss arrangements for the visit.
Inaugurated in 1935, Hasanand Gochar is one of Vrindavan’s oldest cow sanctuaries. It was created by Bharat Ratna Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya after a sadhu from Punjab named Hasanand reported that a villager was being held captive for not paying taxes for grazing cows on the land. Hasanand Baba felt that demanding taxes for grazing cows on Sri Krishna’s land is wrong, not to speak of tying up a villager who couldn’t pay the taxes, so, he traveled to Varanasi to appeal to Malviya to establish a goshala.
