Vrindavan, 2016.07.29 (VT): After successful tours in Europe and Japan, the brother team of Satyanarayana Dasaji, Mahant of the Jiva Ashram in Vrindavan, and Dr. Partap Chauhan, founder of Jiva Ayurveda, will be holding a three-day seminar in Vrindavan in August.
Though Satyanarayana Dasaji, PhD, is well known to Brijvasis and the international devotee community as an erudite Sanskrit scholar and author of many books, his younger brother Partap may be less familiar to local people.
But Dr. Partap Chauhan’s reputation has been firmly established all over India as a television exponent of Ayurvedic health solutions. He has also been teaching internationally for more than 20 years and has educated thousands of Ayurvedic therapists in 50 countries.
He is the founder of world’s largest TeleMedicine Center in Faridabad where more than 150 Ayurvedic doctors work under one roof. As a result, the herbal remedies produced by Jiva Ayurveda are eagerly sought all over India.
Dr. Chauhan made his first trip to Japan in 1998 and has had such positive feedback from the people in that country that he recently launched a Japanese version of his magazine Paramayu. Moreover, his students in several countries in Europe — France, Poland, and Lithuania — have started Ayurveda schools of their own and both he and Satyanarayana Dasaji are regular visiting lecturers in these institutions.
Working together for a common purpose.
Says Partap, “In India it is well known that the body, mind and soul cannot be treated separately. In the West, nearly all the attention is paid on the body separate from the mind and soul, but I have always seen that real holistic health means to cure the spiritual disease as well. God has given this human body only as an instrument for spiritual realization. This is how my partnership with Babaji [Mahant Satyanarayana Dasaji] works. I speak from the Ayurvedic point of view and he speaks from the spiritual.”
Dr. Satyanarayana Dasaji elaborates further, “The seminar held in Japan was on detoxification of the mind. I told the students that the basic disease of the mind is ignorance of the self, which gives rise to identification with the body. This further results in attractions and repulsions. The human mind basically rotates in the groves of raga and dvesh. All our actions are impelled by either one or the other of these — and that the seat of intoxication and where it leaves its residue in the mind. So real detoxification means to rise above raga and dvesh.”
We may have heard those things before, but Babaji goes on to say, “There are various means for detoxing the mind in the Sanatan tradition: karma yoga, jnana yoga, ashtanga yoga and bhakti yoga. Of all the processes the path of bhakti is best because on this path one can depend on the grace of Bhagavan. On other paths there is no such facility.”
The Jiva group was founded in Faridabad in 1992 by Dr. Partap and Satyanarayana Dasaji along with a third brother, Rishi Pal Chauhan, the third branch being dedicated to education.
A unique insight into well-being from an Ayurvedic perspective
The retreat to be held on the weekend of August 13-15 will be about understanding wellness. Having the retreat in Vrindavan will give international students the chance to explore Indian culture and the traditions of Sanatan Dharma close up, even as they learn about how to deal with the stresses of modern life.
Says Dr. Partap, “It is time we took a deep breath, relaxed and thought about where we are heading. Modern technology may offer us solutions for comforting the body and senses, but it seems that these ‘solutions’ are actually disturbing the mind and, moreover, are unfulfilling for the soul. When the mind is disturbed or there is lack of love in our lives, blockages and imbalances are created in the physical organs and systems. Therefore in spite of having the most modern medical technologies, the number of diseases all over the world is increasing every year, many of them not understood at all even by the most advanced medical scientists. So the purpose of the retreat is to give some insight into the natural, balanced health that is the goal of Ayurveda.”
