Celebrating the Mood of Love on Sri Gusainji’s 500th

Article Contributed by Krishnaa Kinkari Devi

From 27th December 2015 to 3rd January 2016, the Pushtimargi Sri Krishna Lila Sansthan and Vraja Kishori Publications celebrated the 500th Appearance day of Sri Vitthalnathji Sri Gusainji. The eight Lilas depicted were taken from the 252 Vaishnavon ki Varta, the stories of Sri Gusainji’s 252 disciples, which is the latest translation from VKP.

Composed by Sri Gokulnathji [grandson of Sri Vallabhacharyaj], and with commentary by Sri Harirayji, these tales give a very worthy glimpse into the historical scene of the day, but most of all teach how the principles of the Path of Grace may be brought into the devotee’s everyday life and every thought process. On the last day, the Lilas reached a crescendo with the ecstatic rendition of Lila Kirtans from the Ashtachaap poets and the launch of the new books for 2016, the 252 Vaishnavon ki Varta: Volume 1, parts 1 and 2,and Vasanta Ashtayam Seva, a collection of Rasiyas and Dhamars  together with Padas to accompany the Ashtayam Seva throughout the Spring Season.

The heart of the Pushtimarg is “Raga Seva” – service to the Lord through music. The Poets Surdas, Paramanandadas, Krishnadas and Kumbhandas are disciples of Sri Vallabhacharyaji and Nandadas, Chitsvami, Govindsvami and Chaturbhujdas are disciples of Sri Gusainji. Their Poetry is vast: every moment of the Lord’s Lila, for every day and for the festivals throughout the year, is logged and eulogised therein. Surdasji alone is responsible for 125,000 Padas. At every service in the Havelis, these are sung to create the mood of the day, of the season, of the period of Seva, of the Lord’s relationships with His Beloved and His devotees, of the mood of love and surrender and the spiritual wishes of the devotees. They are sung in appropriate Ragas before the Beloveds, from before They awake until They take rest.

On behalf of Vraja Kishori Publications I would like, with the Blessings of Sri Vrindavan Dham’s Beloveds and and Their esteemed Devotees, to commence a series of daily articles to present these poems with transliterations and translations. We will begin tomorrow.
